Seafarers are cut off from their loved ones for months on end – sometimes up to a year. Less than 25% of ships have wifi and phone signal can be scarce. This lack of communication can have a huge impact on seafarers’ mental health and their relationships.
Thankfully, the Mission can provide the practical and emotional support many seafarers need during their time at sea – whether that’s a SIM card, access to wifi in our Seafarers Centres, or just a listening ear.
We are working with communications suppliers, such at iVitta and other mobile providers, as well as global satellite companies, to improve communications for seafarers in the workplace.
