Here at The Mission To Seafarers, we are always interested in partnership opportunities. In 2017 we started a three-year partnership with HFW.
This partnership has been extremely valuable to MtS in the provision of pro-bono legal advice covering a global governance review which has enabled MtS to update many of its outdated processes. With HFW’s assistance, we now have a clearer understanding of our governance arrangements and are forming a governance strategy based on this insight.
HFW also carried out a thorough review of our insurances and have made changes to our insurance cover. In addition, we have received invaluable advice on GDPR and a referral to a property lawyer – both of which have benefitted us enormously as an organisation.
Tomi Toluhi, Director of HR & Administration, said: “Not only has the partnership helped us make significant cost savings, but the high-quality advice has helped us to develop our governance as an organisation, so we can do more to support people at sea. We’re very grateful to HFW for their ongoing support.”
Not only has the partnership helped in this way, but also HFW have helped in other ways:
- HFW have provided generous donations towards our core work of Chaplaincy and ship visiting
- Sponsored the Drinks Reception for our Singapore Seafarers’ Awards in 2018 and 2019
- November 2019 also saw HFW launch the Missions first ever Global Day of Action which saw HFW offices collaborate with their fundraising activities to raise an amazing £25,000.
Jan Webber says “Our Fundraisers in Dubai and Singapore are working closely with the HFW offices in these locations providing enhanced support for the Global Day of Action. Coordinated from London, we hope this to be a great way to engage HFW staff.
The Mission is also proud to announce HFW have agreed to extend the partnership until March 2022.
The Revd Canon Andrew Wright, Secretary General, The Mission to Seafarers: “Our partnership with HFW has been truly transformational for The Mission. The firm has provided a wide range of pro bono legal and practical support and has also raised significant funds that have enabled us to deliver help to those who need it most. Seafarers are the international key workers that often get overlooked and we’re extremely grateful for HFW’s experience and support in ensuring the world’s seafarers have the protection and advice they need. We’re excited to continue our relationship.”
