11/03/1929 - 18/03/2024
Captain George Mackinlay passed peacefully at Frimley Park hospital on Monday 18th March 2024 aged 95 years. Beloved husband of Dawn and father to Jeremy Timothy and Hannah, grandfather to Natasha, Kirsty and Georgia. Dad went to sea at 16 on the training ship SS Dolphin studying at Leith Nautical College. Master Mariner and Captain foreign-going by age 26 travelled the world visiting over 40 countries. Dad came ashore in 1961 and until retirement served as a Trinity House Pilot on the Medway. Dad will be sorely missed by his loving family. Dad was dedicated to his family, loved gardening and travelled extensively with Dawn during retirement. Donations to the Missions to Seafarers are much appreciated and also fitting; dad would talk about the kindness of the Chaplains at various ports who would take sailors ashore for relaxation and sightseeing. |
