Robert began his ‘sea journey’ in January 1954, as 2nd Engineer aboard M.V. Waiwera.

His seas journeys took him around the world, a world he loved to explore. He spent time on S.S. Suevic, M.T. Marinia and M.V. Lochcarron to name just a few. He loved exploring the countries he visited in particular he enjoyed spending time in New Zealand and Australia. He often spoke of friends he made during his journeys.

After leaving sea he started working with Rolls Royce eventually retiring from the plant in Hillington, Glasgow.

Robert was a very sociable gentleman who loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends. He was quite the ‘Fred Astaire’ on the dance floor and was blessed with a lovely singing voice too.

Towards then end of his life Robert spend time in a Care Home environment where would often entertain other residents with his seafaring stories. He was also known to burst into song further entertaining everyone around him.

Robert will be sadly missed, but very fondly remembered, by his family and his many friends.
