The Mission to Seafarers is passionate about educating young people about the maritime industry and life at sea. So much so that we have our own learning resource for children aged 5 to 11.
In the pack, we look at the roles of seafarers and what they do for us through a range of games, worksheets and displays.
The resource is linked to the National Curriculum and has activities that cover:
- English Language and Literacy
- Mathematics
- Art and design
- RE
- PHSE
- Design and Technology
- Geography/The World Around Us
The resource pack was written by Rosie McCreanor and Stella Murry – two global educators who specialise in development education.
Please note: One of the lessons in Section A, The Voyage of Emma, is temporarily unavailable. The lessons that follow on from The Voyage of Emma in Section A – (Sea of Emotions, Going on a Sea Voyage and Around the World by Sea Race Game) can still be used without this video.
If you are interested in receiving the resource to use in your classroom or have any ideas that could enhance a child’s learning experience about life at sea, please contact info@missiontoseafarers.org
